Hello District 1 Phi Theta Kappans!
This year’s International Convention in San Jose, California was truly amazing! I am so proud to be a part of the Alabama Region and I hope that we can continue the great work of last year’s regional officer team.
Congratulations and welcome to our newest members of the Phi Theta Kappa family, Beta Upsilon Xi chapter at J. F. Drake Technical College! The new chapter was chartered on April 16 during a beautiful and well-planned induction ceremony. We’ll get to meet Beta Upsilon Xi members at Mock Chapter in July.
I would like to congratulate every chapter in District One who won a Hallmark Award this year. I would also like to congratulate all those who were honored for the scholarships many of you all have received as well. The hard work each one of you put in this year made the Alabama Region one of the Most Distinguished Regions, an honor only three Regions receive every year. I believe that this year was only the beginning of how amazing the Alabama Region will be. A standard has now been set by the Region to continue this excellence. Special congratulations to Alpha Zeta Iota for being named the Most Distinguished Chapter of all of Phi Theta Kappa! District One also had two other chapters make it in the top 10, Sigma Lambda (2nd Finalist) and my home chapter, Psi Epsilon (7th Finalist) for Most Distinguished Chapter! The Alabama Region also had four Distinguished Chapters recognized at the 2013 Phi Theta Kappa International Convention, Alpha Zeta Iota, Sigma Lambda, Psi Epsilon, and Alpha Sigma Beta!
I enjoyed meeting some of you at the International Convention, and hope that you all had a wonderful experience. We’re excited about the coming year, and we hope you are all ready to get out there and make a difference on your campus and in your community. We want this year to be the best yet for the Alabama Region! The Regional Officers will meet for our Regional Officer Retreat in May to talk about the needs and possible goals for the Alabama Region, and we’ll have another planning meeting at the Honors Institute in June. I would really like to hear your ideas, so please let me know what you think about our Region’s needs, and what should be included in the Regional goals.
Once again, I would like to stay in touch throughout the summer and fall, and hear from each of you about your chapter’s activities. So as soon as you can, please send me your new officer and advisor information, and pictures of your chapter's fall and/or spring induction of new members. It would be great if we could have every chapter in our District featured on alptk.com, the Alabama Region’s website. When you plan your chapter meetings and special events for fall semester, I would like for you to send me those dates. I want to visit each of you at some point during the year, and hope you’ll call on me if you need help with any of your chapter activities.
Advisors, please forward this letter to your officers and members!
